Hollering, bickering, belittling, pointing out specific flaws, and such do not represent a healthy, open dialog, as far too many people seem to think.

These tactics are very counterproductive.

You and your spouse need to become fully prepared to determine for yourselves exactlywhere it is you wish this relationship to go. If both agree that each one’s goals are able to be compromised by the other, then you need to work towards this without anger, jealously, hurt feelings, guilt, and so on.

You have to clearly communicate what you need from your partner; don’t expect them to be able to read your mind.

Consulting a Counselor

This is nothing to be ashamed of! Marriage counselors can be excellent resources for reinforcing your marriage.

You may have to hunt around to locate a counselor who you both can relate to, particularly if your marriage is unconventional.

But a good marriage counselor can really help a couple get back on track. 

This counselor can offer unbiased and objective opinions, and they are not involved with any of the issues between both parties.

If you are displeased with the counselor you have selected, you can just change, and you do not need to follow their advice exactly.

But you should take a counselor’s advice into consideration, since a good counselor can be very helpful in helping you identify the troubles within your marriage.

There is a good chance you can make the marriage work if both of you are willing to compromise, communicate, and make things work.
